Personal

1. I’m from East Texas and unfortunately still live here, although thankfully not in the town I grew up. I’d much rather be on the upper East coast or the UK.

2. Appearance-wise, i’m pretty much average all around. The only notable thing is my hair, which would without a doubt beat even Hermione Granger’s in a contest of curl and frizz.

3. I’m divorced, and not in any hurry to get re-married (unless professing my undying love and intentions towards various kitchen gadgets counts). I’ve been with the current boy (Chris) for over 6 years…quite happily living in sin much to my grandmother’s disgust.

4. I currently hold the position of Office Manager for our company. This keeps me busy, but still gives me the freedom to be home most of the time, control my own hours, and not have to answer to twits that are younger and less experienced than me. I love it, it’s the almost-perfect job.

5. I hate gyms. I prefer sweating my ass off in the privacy of my own home, thank you very much.

6. I have been known to use southern slang like y’all and “used to could”. Don’t judge.

Entertainment

7. I read history books for fun, specifically books on Arthurian Legend and early European history. Thanks to my new addiction to knitting, this also now includes books on fiber arts. Although honestly, i’ll read just about anything. I prefer historical fiction and books about magic/folklore, but its rare for me to find a book I won’t read. However I do wish I had the 3 hours I spent on The Da Vinci code back.

8. When I have control of the remote, the tv is generally tuned to either the History Channel or Cartoon Network, although occasionally PBS and BBC America are thrown into the mix. Apart from that, I don’t watch much tv. About the only popular shows I bother with anymore are The Office and My Name is Earl. I was a Charmed fan before it started to suck, and was pretty big with the whole Whedonverse thing back in the day, but most shows now just aren’t very interesting.

9. Most people would probably consider me a music snob, but I would just say that I prefer music that sounds like…well, music. I want meaningfull lyrics, and an honest to goodness band/instruments behind the singer, which means that 95% of what you hear on the radio is right out. Current favorites include Matt Costa, Colin Hay, Joshua Radin, Hem, Regina Spektor, Laura Veirs, Andrew Bird, etc etc. Mellow and pretty, or quirky and catchy can pretty much sum up the styles I gravitate towards.

10. I personally think JK Rowling is a genius. She’s not the most talented writer out there, but her ability to weave a story that has turned an entire generation of kids into avid readers is without a doubt a gift. We need more authors like her.

11. Speaking of JKR and Harry Potter…Harry/Hermione sucks. :)

12. As for movies, I would rather watch human drama, but have a geeky love of cheesy sci-fi, conspiracy theories, and quest-type movies as well. Chris, on the other hand, will watch pretty much anything, which is proven by our 300-something collection of dvds.

13. I love, love, love mystery games. If i’m going to play a pc or video game, i’d rather solve some sort of mystery than just shoot at bad guys/race after something. But since that type of game is hard to find, I console myself by torturing pixel people in Sims 2.

14. I have massive celeb crushes on Zooey Deschanel, Rachel Weisz, Kate Winslet, Oliver Phelps, Adrien Brody, and Justin Bartha. Yay pretty people.

Crafty

15. I’ve only been knitting since Summer ‘06, but once I figured out how damn easy it was I jumped right in with both feet. Beginners patterns bore the crap out of me…give me cables and advanced shaping any day.

16. I tend to gravitate towards color over texture, especially rich autumny and jewel tones.

17. I definitely suffer from startitis. There are just entirely too many things I want to knit.

18. I can sew, I just don’t like to. This is probably due, in part, to the fact that my sewing machine is older than I am and not in that nice antique way.

19. Apart from knitting and sewing, I dabble in beading, and recently spinning and dyeing. Beading drives me bonkers, but I can’t seem to stop.

20. I refuse to ever start scrapbooking.

Other things that don’t fit elsewhere

21. I love to cook, baking especially.

22. I love spicy things, whether its food or scents.

23. Tea, chocolate, scones, and clotted cream are gifts from above, and I could probably live on them if given the chance.

24. I identify as pagan, though not in the New Age-y way. Nature comes first, and all higher beings are products of nature. I do believe in faeries and ghosts and all those fun things. I don’t believe in a singular god and generally view the bible as a highly biased mix of history and myth.

25. My dream career would be archaeology. Digging in the dirt is fun!
