Taking over the world with knitting needles.
Posted by heather under knitting
This past Saturday, Chris turned me loose with money and told me to go buy whatever I wanted. I think he assumed I would splurge on books and clothes…he couldn’t have been more wrong. I actually intended to go buy fabric to get started on a quilted throw to cover the cat scratches on the back of the leather sofa, but instead ended up buying a bunch of odds and ends, and more importantly, my first knitting supplies. Hancocks was having a massive sale, and um, I think I went a little crazy. On top of a couple of fat quarter packs and some random patterns, I bought two “Learn to knit” kits, a skein of Lion Fettuccini in Prairie, and a set of chunky knitting needles…can’t remember the size, and i’m too lazy to get up and look. One of the knitting kits had a how-to dvd, so I popped it in Sunday morning while Chris was still sleeping. I was shocked at how easy it was. I knitted little wonky squares all morning…I think Chris was starting to wonder about my sanity.
Then I decided it was time to actually attempt making something other than a lopsided square. The kits came with patterns, but one was for a scarf and hat, and one for a bag knitted in the round. Well, it’s way too hot to even be thinking about a hat and scarf, and i’m just not quite ready to try out those Victorian era torture devices (aka circular needles), so I hunted down a pattern for a simple bag. It knitted up fairly quickly, and the only real problem I had was the button hole…even though I thought I counted my stitches correctly, it still ended up off center. I’m still happy with it though. I wanted to do something with the Fettuccini yarn I bought (which is absolutely gorgeous, omg) so I combined it with my leftover Wool-Ease and knitted up a little clutch/wallet. It’s ridiculously chunky, but I really like it. No pattern used for that one…I just made a 9″ rectangle, folded and stitched it up and sewed on a button. I may eventually add a long strap so I can wear it, but for now i’m happy with it. Pictures are below!

Now i’m off to finally pick up my sewing machine. Hopefully there will be pictures of my new wallet and maybe another new bag tomorrow.
